Other tips for taking great product photos
Lighting:
- Natural light is best. Position your product near a window to utilize soft, natural light, which minimizes harsh shadows.
- Avoid direct sunlight. This can create harsh, uneven lighting and blown-out highlights.
- Consider artificial light. If natural light is insufficient, use two softboxes or other diffused light sources to create even, soft light.
- Assess shadows. Pay attention to shadow placement and quality. Use fill cards or reflectors to soften shadows if needed.
Background:
- Simple, uncluttered backgrounds are ideal: A white or light-colored background keeps the focus on the product.
- Use a variety of angles: Include front, back, side, and close-up shots to showcase different details.
- Consider using a seamless paper roll or a clean, light-colored wall: These provide a clean, professional look.
- Be mindful of color consistency: If using colored backgrounds, be aware of how they might affect the product’s color perception.
Composition and Angles:
- Focus on the product: Ensure the product is the clear focal point of the image.
- Use a variety of angles: Include front, back, side, and close-up shots to showcase different details.
- Consider the Rule of Thirds: Position the product slightly off-center to create a more visually appealing composition.
- Avoid overly creative angles or positioning: Stick to standard angles for clarity and consistency.
